NZIPP Database reaches milestone
The NZIPS Secretariat recently celebrated the New Zealand Injury Prevention Programmes Database its first birthday.
The database was launched on 25 July 2007 and after continuous promotion, now provides information and contact details for over 500 injury prevention programmes. These range from nationwide government campaigns such as Family Violence "Its not OK" through to industry led initiatives such as the Knife sharpening programme which is provided by meat industry employers such as PPCS, Alliance and CMP. It is also a great mechanism for community groups such as New Plymouth Injury Safe to showcase their programmes.
Over the next 12 months the Secretariat aims to increase the number of programme featured. "We're aiming to ask those in the injury prevention field to have a look at the database and identify areas that are unrepresented and then target those areas. By making it a comprehensive resource, it will ensure that those who use it will get the most benefit" says Jane Mills who is managing the database.
In the 2008/2009 work plan, the database will also be evaluated. This will help to refine the database and also provide insight into how it's being used. Alternatively, feedback on the database is welcome and can be sent to Jane (jane.mills@acc.co.nz).
A new resource to increase awareness of the database and other online resources has also been implemented by the Secretariat. "We received feedback that there wasn't a 'one-stop-shop' detailing resources and information sources currently available. To rectify this, we have designed and printed a handy sticker to be put on your computer screen or notice board" says Fleur Mulligan, who managed the production of the sticker.
